Nepal’s economy has potential to reach $1 Trillion: Governor Adhikari

KATHMANDU: Maha Prasad Adhikari, the Governor of Nepal Rastra Bank (NRB), expressed optimism that Nepal’s economy has the potential to achieve a value of 1 trillion dollars.

He made this statement during his address at the Asian Bankers Association Conference, an event organized by the Nepal Bankers Association on Thursday.

Governor Adhikari highlighted that Nepal has maintained an average economic growth rate of four percent over the past decade. However, he acknowledged that it will take some time for the economy to reach the 1 trillion dollar mark given the current investment climate.

“While it may take a few years, our economy can potentially reach 1 trillion dollars. Nepal’s economic growth can even enter the upper single digits. Since the earthquake in 2015, Nepal has experienced an annual economic growth rate of eight percent,” Governor Adhikari noted.

He also emphasized that the economy’s size is poised to expand further as the government actively fosters an investment-friendly environment. Moreover, he encouraged bankers attending the conference to consider increasing their investments in Nepal and leveraging the country’s significant potential in the hydro and infrastructure sectors.

The conference has attracted 63 CEOs from 18 countries, demonstrating a growing interest in Nepal’s economic prospects.
