KATHMANDU: The government has recommended Sanil Nepal as the Ambassador to Portugal, as Nepal prepares to establish its embassy in the European country.
Communication and Information Technology Minister Rekha Sharma informed that the cabinet meeting held on Thursday approved the establishment of a Nepali Embassy in Portugal and nominated Sanil Nepal as the ambassador.
The decision to open a residential embassy in Portugal was initially discussed in the cabinet meeting three weeks before. While there were questions regarding this decision at the time, the government refrained from making a public statement. It was only in the recent cabinet meeting on Thursday that the appointment of the ambassador was officially announced.
Currently, Nepal operates 40 diplomatic missions globally, including 30 resident embassies, 3 permanent missions, and 7 consulate generals in various countries.
