NHRC delegation seeks Speaker Ghimire’s role in improving human rights standard in nation

KATHMANDU: A delegation led by the Chairperson of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Top Bahadur Magar, met Speaker Devraj Ghimire on Monday.

During the meeting held at the office of the Speaker in Singha Durbar, Speaker Ghimire expressed his commitment that lawmakers would take possible initiatives regarding maintaining the ‘A’ class category of Human Rights Commission of Nepal.

On the occasion, Speaker Ghimire shared that suggestions of the NHRC on its amendment bill related to Human Rights Commission Act and Transitional Justice would be incorporated by coordinating with the government.

Similarly, NHRC Chair Magar informed about the NHRC’s suggestions at a time when the amendment bill related to the Human Rights Commission Act and Transitional Justice is now under consideration at the Human Rights Committee of the Parliament as well as about maintaining ‘A’ class category of the NHRC.

Likewise, NHRC member Dr Surya Dhungel briefed Speaker Ghimire about the discussions and initiatives taken by the NHRC with Asia Pacific Forum and Global Alliance for Human Rights Institutions.

NHRC Member Manoj Duwadi, Acting Secretary Murari Prasad Kharel and Human Rights Officer Khimanand Basyal were also present on the occasion.
