PM Dahal convenes all-party and Cabinet meetings to discuss Israel crisis and ensure Nepali citizens’ safety



KATHMANDU: Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has called for urgent action to safeguard the well-being of Nepali citizens affected by the turmoil resulted out of the situation after Hamas groups’-attack in Israel.

A special Council of Ministers meeting has been scheduled to discuss critical issues such as rescue operations, repatriation efforts, and relief measures.

The meeting, set to take place at Singha Durbar on Monday at 4 pm, will cover a wide range of topics, including the current conditions in Israel, the status of Nepali nationals residing there, diplomatic strategies for their safe return, technical logistics, and other pertinent matters.

Following the Council of Ministers session, Prime Minister Prachanda has summoned an all-party meeting, slated for 5 pm at Singha Durbar. This meeting will focus on the Israeli crisis and the security and welfare of Nepali citizens directly affected by the ongoing situation.

Since the recent attack on Israel that occurred on Saturday morning (Nepali time), Prime Minister Dahal has remained deeply concerned about the unfolding events and has taken immediate government action to address the crisis.

Prime Minister Dahal strongly condemned the incident that transpired on October 7, extending heartfelt sympathies to the families of the affected Nepali citizens. He also personally assessed the conditions of injured Nepali nationals at the Nepali Embassy in Israel and directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to initiate rescue efforts.

On Sunday morning, the Prime Minister convened an emergency meeting at Baluwatar, bringing together key officials, including the Deputy Prime Ministers duo Defense Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka and Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha, Foreign Minister NP Saud, Education Minister Ashok Rai, National Security Adviser, Foreign Secretary, and heads of security agencies. The primary objective of this meeting was to assess the situation of Nepali citizens caught in the crossfire of the Israel-Hamas conflict and to coordinate rescue missions.

During this meeting, a Rapid Action Team was established, comprising Foreign Minister Saud, representatives from relevant ministries, security agencies, foreign embassies, and delegations. This team is actively engaged in the necessary preparations and coordination required for the safe rescue and repatriation of Nepali citizens.

Additionally, the government has initiated a collection of details and rapid information system to facilitate the return of Nepali citizens wishing to come back home from Israel.
