DSC Sankhuwasabha forms inquiry committee after inmates’ death in Jail

SANKHUWASABHA: In response to the tragic deaths of two inmates within the confines of Sankhuwasabha District Jail, the District Security Committee has taken swift action by constituting an inquiry committee.

During a convened meeting at the District Administration Office, a comprehensive three-member committee has been assembled under the leadership of Sankhuwasabha’s Assistant Chief District Officer, Mohanmani Ghimire.

The inmates, identified as 19-year-old Vinod Tolangi from Madi Municipality-5 and 28-year-old Akas Balami from Nuwakot Kakani Rural Municipality-7, lost their lives this morning. Deputy Superintendent of Police Birendra Godar from the District Police Office Sankhuwasabha reported that the individuals passed away while within the prison premises.

According to DSP Godar, the incident unfolded when the inmates attempted to escape via the prison toilet at 1 am. However, they were apprehended by the prison police and subsequently handed over to the prison administration. Despite these efforts, the two were discovered unconscious inside the facility at 4 am. Their prompt transfer to the district hospital for medical treatment sadly culminated in their demise.

The deceased, Tolangi, incarcerated for a rape conviction, and Balami, imprisoned for theft, had endeavored to flee from the facility.

Chief District Officer Shivkumar Karki assured that the committee’s probe would unravel the truth behind the tragedy, aiming to bring clarity to the circumstances surrounding the inmates’ untimely deaths.
