Clash erupts at Sankhuwasabha jail, claiming two lives

SANKHUWASABHA: Tragedy struck Sankhuwasabha prison as a deadly clash unfolded, resulting in the loss of two inmates’ lives.

Jailer Rajendra Ghimire confirmed that the victims have been identified as Akash Balami from Kakani-7 in Nuwakot and Binod Tolangi from Madi in Sankhuwasabha.

Binod had been serving an 18-year prison sentence due to his involvement in an extortion case, while Akash was incarcerated for a three-year term related to a theft conviction.

Assistant Chief District Officer Mohanmani Ghimire revealed that the clash occurred earlier today, leading to severe injuries sustained by both individuals.

Tragically, their injuries proved fatal while they were en route to the hospital for medical assistance.

Reportedly, the two inmates had attempted to escape by tampering with a toilet rod around 2 o’clock in the morning.

However, their escape bid was thwarted when vigilant police officers on duty apprehended them, promptly returning them to their cells.

The situation escalated around 5 o’clock in the morning, causing turmoil within the prison premises.

Police personnel, including the jailer, swiftly entered the facility to assess the unfolding scenario, only to discover the two young men gravely wounded.

“Their lives could not be saved during transit to the hospital,” lamented Assistant Chief District Officer Ghimire.
