Govt will not tolerate anarchic activities in Koshi Province: Home Minister

Home Minister Narayankaji Shrestha has warned that the government will not grant any exemptions for non-peaceful and disruptive activities in the Koshi province. The main opposition party, CPN-UML, has expressed strong discontent over the repeated attacks on its leaders in the Koshi Province during Friday’s House of Representatives (HoR) session.

SC orders to produce recently validated Citizenship Bill

The Supreme Court has ordered to produce a copy of the Citizenship Bill certified by President Ramchandra Paudel. After hearing a writ petition filed against President Paudel’s validation of the Citizenship Bill, the division bench of Justice Prakashman Singh Raut and Sushmalata Mathema ordered the submission of the letter sent by the government to the President to certify the Bill.

SC directs to register ‘war crimes’ related writ against PM Dahal and former PM Bhattarai

The Supreme Court has revoked its administration’s decision not to register a writ relating to War Crime for the alleged involvement of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai. The SC ordered on Friday to register the ‘war crime’ allegation comprising the writ of the then minor soldier Lenin Bista against PM Dahal and Dr. Bhattarai.

District Election Offices are to be managed differently, not dissolved: PM Dahal

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has said that the District Election Office is not to be dissolved, but to be managed in a new way. PM Dahal said during a meeting with the Election Commission (EC) office-bearers today that the government is conscious not to allow a restriction or an adverse impact on the EC’s jurisdiction, according to EC spokesman Shaligram Sharma Poudel.

Officer at Teku Lab arrested with 50,000 bribe

Lekhnath Bhattarai, a technician working at the National Public Health Laboratory Teku, has been arrested with a bribe money of Rs 50,000 on Friday. A team of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) arrested Bhattarai from Shankhamul when he was accepting a bribe of 50,000 from a customer.

Budget sans optimistic stride: RSP lawmaker Wagle

Lawmaker Dr. Swarnim Wagle has commented that the budget presented by the government for the coming fiscal year 2080/81 would not make any stride in the economic sector. Taking part in the ongoing discussion on the budget in the second meeting of the House of Representatives today, Dr. Wagle suggested government advance for ‘fundamental course correction’.

Overcrowded Baglung prison house leaves jailbirds in trouble

The Baglung District Jail in Baglung is holding more than two times its capacity, which has left the jailbirds in troubles. As a result, the safety concerns and challenges of the inmates are growing. The Department of Prisons has set a capacity of 75 inmates including 50 men but it currently houses 166 inmates, according to Jailer Dil Bahadur KC.

Nepal elected UN ECOSOC member for two years

Nepal has been elected as a member of the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) for the term 2024-2026. The Permanent Mission of Nepal to the UN in New York stated that Nepal is elected the ECOSOC member of the term with the highest number of 145 votes from the Asia-Pacific Group from the elections held on June 8 in New York.
