Minister Sharma insists on IT use to improve health system

KATHMANDU: Minister for Communications and Information Technology, Rekha Sharma, has said the government has proceeded towards the policy of utilising IT as a tool of enhancing health service delivery.

The Minister said effective implementation of telemedicine facilities and digital awareness are on the focus of the government as it seeks to improve the health system.

“It is a big achievement that the Constitution of Nepal guarantees the women’s right to reproductive health,” Minister Sharma said, adding that serious attention from all quarters was necessary for its effective implementation.

“We have recognised the right to reproductive health as our fundamental rights, but it is yet to be exercised on a larger scale. Its awareness and implementation should be focused with the use of IT,” the Minister said.

Reminding the Prime Minister’s special announcement about the women’s health on the occasion of the International Women’s Day on Wednesday, the Minister urged the Health Ministry to ensure its effective implementation.

“Every mother should be healthy for healthy citizens,” the Minister asserted. She was of the view that women’s health should be accepted as basis for producing healthy citizen and building a strong nation.

The two-day conference will see presentations of working papers by experts on the relevant topics and it is expected to be helpful in formulating better polices in regard with women’s health.
