District Court demands debate notes of both parties in Aftab Alam related case

RAUTAHAT:The District Court Rautahat has issued an order to submit the argument note within 15 days in the case related to the former minister and Nepali Congress leader Mohammad Aftab Alam, who is in jail for the trial of the Rajapur bomb incident in Rautahat.

The Court issued this order before the verdict after the final argument was concluded on Wednesday. The debate, which lasted for a few days, ended on Wednesday.

According to Court sources, the arguments on behalf of the parties, opponents, public attorneys, as well as the victims, have concluded today.

The court has ordered the party, the opposition, the public prosecutor, and the court staff to submit a note of argument in this case within 15 days. Similarly, the court staff has been instructed to summarize the case and submit it to the bench.

Earlier, government lawyers and legal practitioners of Alam had engaged in a debate. The final argument in his case started in the court of District Judge Babukaji Baniya.

The issue was being debated for a few days. Now, after submitting the argument note, the district court will pronounce the verdict. A debate was held under the leadership of District Attorney Badri Kumar Karki of the Public Prosecutor’s Office Rautahat, who claimed that Alam could not be acquitted.

Some lawyers arrived from Kathmandu to argue on behalf of the victims. Some advocates, including advocate Pushpa Paudel, argued on Wednesday. They demanded that Alam should be imprisoned for life.

The District Attorney’s Office, Rautahat, on November 4, had filed the case against Alam, demanding life imprisonment on three counts of crime.

Alam has been charged with a crime for the production of explosives and offenses related to murder, which he has been denying. While pleading not guilty before the court, Alam claimed that no explosion took place.

The case has seen twists and turns, with victims changing their statements before the court under alleged pressure from Alam.

Eleven persons were charged in connection with the crime. Ten persons, including Alam, have been charged with burning those injured in a bomb explosion at a brick kiln. One person has been accused of assisting the crime.

Alam’s cadres were reportedly making a bomb following his order and were injured when the bomb accidentally went off on April 9, 2008. Seven persons were killed in the bombing.
