Outgoing CM Thapa suggests possible UML-Congress coalition in Koshi Province

BIRATNAGAR: Uddhav Thapa, the departing Chief Minister of Koshi Province, has raised the possibility of a coalition government consisting of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML, with power-sharing arrangements.

Following the swearing-in ceremony of the newly appointed Chief Minister, Hikmat Kumar Karki, a journalist posed the question, “Is it conceivable for the Congress and UML to collaborate and divide the tenure evenly to form a government?”

In response to this query, Thapa stated, “While there has been no official decision from the top leadership, it is indeed a feasible option.”

Thapa also revealed that in the event that the Karki-led government fails to secure a vote of confidence within 30 days, he possesses 47 votes to stake a claim under Article 168, Clause 5 of the Constitution to establish a government.

Furthermore, Thapa asserted his readiness to create a government in accordance with Article 168, emphasizing his preference to avoid mid-term elections for Koshi Province.
