KATHMANDU: Lawmaker Sarbendranath Shukla has voiced his objections regarding Chinese Ambassador Chen Song’s recent statement about Nepal potentially selling electricity to India, raising the issue in the Parliament.

Shukla, the leader of the Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, expressed his concern over the Ministry of Foreign Affairs remaining silent despite acknowledging the Chinese ambassador’s statement.

Shukla emphasized that the Nepal government has taken note of the Chinese ambassador’s statement, which he believes crossed diplomatic boundaries.

He expressed hope that appropriate actions will be taken in response.

During Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda’s visit to India, he held discussions with the speaker and highlighted the existing electricity trade agreement with India, aiming to sell 10,000 megawatts of electricity.

Shukla pointed out that the agreement clarifies the purchasing party due to purchase guarantees, thus paving the way for investments.

Furthermore, Shukla asserted that trading electricity with India has the potential to yield an annual profit of 470 billion rupees.

He stated his objection to the remarks made by the Chinese ambassador, Chen Song.
