Three arrested with counterfeit notes in Kathmandu

KATHMANDU: In a significant development, the Armed Police Force (APF) has apprehended three individuals in Kathmandu for possession of counterfeit currency.

The arrests took place near Nagini khola of Tarakeshwor-5, Goldhunga on Tuesday evening.

The detainees have been identified as Lakshmi Pandey from Diprung Chuichumma Rural Municipality-5 in Khotang, Subas Gurung from Dordi Rural Municipality-2 in Lamjung, and Mad Damai from Gokul Rural Municipality-1 in Ramechhap.

The trio had been living in a rented domicile within Tarakeshwar-5 Goldhunga. APF team recovered 182 counterfeit notes printed NRs. 1000 notes, along with 200 pieces of paper potentially used in the production of counterfeit currency.

Additional items confiscated from their residence include four mobile phones, ten SIM cards, and a 220 cc Pulsar motorcycle bearing 9027 Ba 65 Pa number plate. While the equipment for producing counterfeit currency was not found at the scene, suspicions linger that the operation may have been conducted off-site.

Authorities have handed over the suspects and the seized materials to local law enforcement for necessary legal action.
