PM Dahal and UML Chairman Oli meet amid growing mistrust

To hold meeting of the High Level Mechanism on Thursday

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Pushpa Kamal Dahal Prachanda on Wednesday reached Balkot, CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s residence, and held talks on the latest political developments.

The meeting between the two leaders took place amid growing mistrust in the ruling coalition.

UML Chairman Oli is suspicious after the Nepali Congress (NC) is hell-bent on bringing a rift in the alliance.

The Prime Minister’s Secretariat informed that the two leaders discussed the President’s elections, Rastriya Swatantra Party’s decision to quit the government, among other issues.

They also discussed matters such as giving full shape to the Council of Ministers and the presidential election.

Prime Minister Dahal has been insisting on electing the country’s President on the basis of national consensus while UML Chairman Oli has said the President should be from the CPN-UML according to the previous agreement.

The leaders have, meanwhile, agreed to hold a meeting of the High Level Political Mechanism led by UML Chairman Oli on Thursday.
