Dhanusha SP Khadka relocated to Police Headquarters in Aarti Sah ‘death’ case

KATHMANDU: SP Bishwaraj Khadka of Dhanusha District Police, who stands accused of assaulting Aarti Sah’s family, has been transferred to the Police Headquarters in Naxal, Kathmandu.

Kamal Giri, Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister’s Press Coordinator, confirmed that SP Khadka was relocated to the headquarters at the directive of the Ministry of Home Affairs.

A clash ensued on June 15 when Aarti Sah’s family refused to sign a statement they believed to be falsified. During the confrontation, SP Khadka is alleged to have assaulted Aarti Sah’s sister, Manisha, brother, Prem, and father, Binod Prasad. Earlier, DSP Bed Prakash Gautam was also transferred to the headquarters.

Relatives of Aarti Sah have been staging a hunger strike in Maitighar Mandala since June 16, alleging that the police played a role in undermining the Aarti Sah case.

A high-level investigation committee, established by the Nepal Police to examine the circumstances surrounding Aarti Sah’s death in Dhanusha, has commenced its inquiry.

A five-member investigative team, led by DIG Bikas Khanal, has initiated a thorough examination of the Aarti Sah case.

SSP Shekhar Khanal, a committee member actively involved in the investigation, reported that the team has collected information from the incident scene, relatives, in-laws of the deceased, neighbors, representatives of Arek Nepal, and other pertinent sources.

Aarti was found deceased in her home on May 21, bearing visible injuries on her body, as indicated by her relatives, suggesting foul play.

Aarti’s parents and relatives have been engaged in prolonged protests at Maitighar Mandala in Kathmandu, demanding a fair investigation into the incident.
