Pregnant women of Khairahani Municipality getting free checkups, ambulance service



CHITWAN: Kairahani Municipality in Chitwan district has decided to provide free checkups and ambulance services to the expecting mothers living permanently in the municipality.

The pregnant women would get certain types of blood tests, video x-rays as well as ambulance services free of cost. The local level is going to provide such facility under the ‘Pregnant and postnatal care with Deputy-Mayor’ program.

Mayor Shashi Kumar Khaniya expressed the belief that the program would be significant in reducing maternal and newborn mortality rates.

Sharing that support and coordination of all stakeholders including employees was necessary for the success and continuity of the program, Khaniya mentioned that this facility would be a milestone in the health and security of new mothers.

Similarly, Deputy-Mayor Kabita Upreti said the municipality had launched the program prioritizing the health condition of pregnant to ensure safe motherhood. The program is implemented by incorporating it into the municipality’s annual program, she shared.
