SC revokes Koshi CM Thapa’s post, directs to appoint UML’s Karki as CM

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has revoked Koshi Province Chief Minister Uddhav Thapa from his position.

The full bench, consisting of Justices Sapana Pradhan Malla, Dr. Kumar Chudal, and Nahakul Subedi, invalidated the vote of confidence previously obtained by Thapa.

Furthermore, the court has issued a directive to appoint the parliamentary party leader of the largest party, Hikmat Karki, as the new Chief Minister within a 48-hour timeframe.

Thapa had secured a vote of confidence from the provincial assembly on August 21, with NC lawmaker Ismail Mansuri, the presiding chairman also casting a vote in his favor.

However, UML leader Karki filed a petition in the Supreme Court, arguing that the Speaker’s vote was unconstitutional.

The Supreme Court has now acted in accordance with Karki’s request, issuing the directive as per his demand.
