RPP accuses UML of hindering parliamentary functioning

Alleges involvement in Gold Smuggling Scam

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) has leveled severe accusations against the main opposition, CPN-UML, alleging that the party sought a share in the illegal gold import case and attempted to divert attention from the parliamentary proceedings.

Speaking to media on Tuesday, RPP Chief Whip Gyanendra Shahi, claimed that UML had unreasonably bargained behind the scene in the gold scandal, requesting a high-level investigation, which he deemed a grave offense.

The gold smuggling incident, involving nearly 100 kilograms of gold illegally entering Nepal from Tribhuvan Airport on July 18, has ignited controversy within political circles.

Since July 26, the main opposition, UML, has continuously disrupted both Houses of the Federal Parliament (National Assembly and House of Representatives), citing their lack of faith in the government’s handling of the case.

After a meeting among the three major parties held on Monday failed to yield results, another meeting has been scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m. in an attempt to resolve the impasse.
