Top leaders engage in talks to remove Parliament obstruction

KATHMANDU: Key political figures are currently in talks to address the obstruction in Parliament.

Speaker Devraj Ghimire initiated discussions with the top leaders, aiming to find a resolution and restore the normal functioning of the legislative body.

The primary focus of the discussion was the removal of the Parliament obstruction and the upcoming election for the selection of the Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee.

The obstruction has been caused by CPN-UML’s demand for the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the gold smuggling case.

In attendance at the meeting were Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda,” Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPN-UML President KP Oli, and other chief whips and whips from the respective parties.

The leaders exchanged their views and sought common ground to move forward with the parliamentary proceedings.

The talks represent a significant step towards finding a viable solution and fostering collaboration among the major political parties to overcome the current impasse, Speaker Ghimire said.
