KATHMANDU: The CPN-UML, the main opposition party, is expected to continue obstructing the House of Representatives (HoR) meeting today, persisting in their demand for the formation of a high-level investigation committee to probe the one quintal gold smuggling case.

Efforts by Speaker Devraj Ghimire to resolve the deadlock during a meeting with party chiefs and whips from all political parties represented in the Parliament were unsuccessful as the UML remained firm on their stance.

UML whip Mahesh Bartaula reiterated that their obstruction would continue until their demands were met.

Meanwhile, Speaker Devraj Ghimire is scheduled to hold a discussion with top leaders of major political parties regarding the removal of obstruction at the House of Representatives today as well.

The gold smuggling case, involving one quintal of gold intercepted at the Tribhuvan Airport Customs Office and later handed over to the Central Investigation Bureau of Nepal Police, remains a major point of contention.

Santosh Pariyar, chief whip of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), commended Speaker Ghimire’s efforts to end the Parliament obstruction.
