Earthquakes jolt Bajhang yet again

BAJHANG: Two earthquakes jolted Bajhang in Sudurpaschim Province, during the night, leaving residents on edge.

The National Earthquake Measurement and Research Center in Lainchour provided details of the occurrences.

The first quake struck at 10:52 pm, with Chainpur in Bajhang serving as the epicenter.

It registered a magnitude of 4.3.

Subsequently, at 12:23 am, another tremor of magnitude 3.9 was reported, with Chainpur also identified as the epicenter.

In the most recent seismic event, Bajhang headquarters in Chainpur experienced a substantial shock, measuring 6.3 in magnitude.

One person lost life in the earthquake on Tuesday, and dozens were injured, with hundreds of houses sustaining damage.

Dr. Lok Bijaya Adhikari, a geologist at the Center, emphasized that Nepal is a region prone to earthquakes, warning that seismic activity can strike at any time.

“Although Western Nepal has remained relatively stable for the past five hundred years, recent seismic events have become increasingly common in the region,” he cautioned.
