SANKHUWASABHA: Foreign Minister Narayan Prakash Saud has confirmed that the Kimathangka border, situated in the northern region of Sankhuwasabha, is poised to resume operations in the near future.
Addressing the press at Tumlingtar Airport on Wednesday, Foreign Minister Saud disclosed that the Kimathanka border crossing, located in the northern area, is set to become operational once more.
Foreign Minister Saud arrived in Sankhuwasabha to mark the inauguration of the Himalaya Kiran Public Campus building, a project realized with support from the Indian Embassy in Khandbari’s headquarters.
Highlighting the imminent reopening of the Kimathanka border crossing, Foreign Minister Saud emphasized plans for its enhancement. He further cited the positive stance of the Chinese government regarding the border’s reopening, asserting that its revival would transpire shortly. He also underlined that there are no geopolitical impediments to resuming operations at Kimathanka.
Foreign Minister Saud underscored the long-standing tradition of Nepali-Tibetan trade, making a compelling case for the strategic importance of reopening the Kimathanka border crossing. He disclosed that the agenda for Prime Minister Pushpakalam Dahal Prachanda’s upcoming visit to China on September 23 includes discussions on the Kimathanka border.
Furthermore, Foreign Minister Saud elaborated on China’s constructive approach, emphasizing their willingness to invest in road infrastructure and transmission lines in the Kimathanka region. He revealed that a project development proposal for power projects has been submitted to the Chinese government.
In their fervent pursuit of reopening the Kimathanka border, representatives from Sankhuwasabha and concerned entities have jointly submitted a letter to both the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, urging them to initiate negotiations with the Chinese government.
The Kimathanka border has remained closed for the past three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic, leading to a critical shortage of food and daily essentials in Bhotkhola.
