KATHMANDU: Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has announced its protest programs against the Kathmandu District Court’s issuance of arrest warrants against its leaders.
NCP’s announcement came in response to the recent warrant targeting NCP General Secretary Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ and other leaders.
The District Court Kathmandu’s issuance of arrest warrants for General Secretary Biplav, spokesperson Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma, Politburo member Maila Lama, and others has sparked controversy.
Biplav highlighted that the court’s move, referencing a March 2020 case, and issuing the warrant directly violates a 3-point agreement made with the government on March 5, 2021.
He reiterated that among the agreed-upon points, one was the withdrawal of cases against party members and the release of imprisoned comrades when the ban was lifted.
Describing this action as an aggressive move against the peaceful initiatives aimed at resolving the country’s issues, the statement strongly condemned the judge’s actions and urged an end to such divisive acts within the judicial system.
The NCP has announced a three-day protest against the arrest warrant starting today.
The outlined schedule includes a torch procession on Tuesday at 5:30 pm, the burning of the judge’s effigy on December 6, and a nationwide public demonstration on December 7 at 2 pm.
