KATHMANDU: Nepal’s Bishal Singh Bista made his mark in weightlifting at the Hangzhou Asian Games on Thursday.
Competing in the men’s 96 kg weight category, Bishal not only set a rare record but also etched his name in Nepalese sports history as the first athlete to lift an astounding 301 kg.
This achievement also marked the establishment of three new national records.
Ram Krishna Shrestha, the President of Nepal Weightlifting Association and the manager of the weightlifting team, expressed his admiration for Bishal’s extraordinary performance.
He highlighted that no Nepalese weightlifter had ever managed to lift such a tremendous weight in any weight group before.
Bishal’s journey to this moment saw him break his own national record, accomplishing a snatch lift of 133 kg, a clean and jerk of 168 kg, and a staggering total lift of 301 kg.
