KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of the police recorded the statement of Dipesh Pun, the son of former Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun, on Monday, for his alleged connection with the gold smuggling case.

The CIB sought Dipesh’s statement as he was identified as having connections with the group involved in the 60 kg gold smuggling case.

According to police sources, Dipesh visited the CIB office in Maharajgunj on Monday afternoon and provided a statement.

On July 18, the Department of Revenue Investigation confiscated 155 kg of bundles of brake shoes containing gold from the premises of Tribhuvan International Airport. The gold, extracted from the brake shoes, amounted to 60.716 kg.

The Department initially arrested the suspects and conducted the preliminary investigation. Subsequently, it handed over the remaining investigation to the CIB.

The CIB is currently probing the case, focusing on charges related to organized crime and revenue evasion.

Thus far, 25 individuals, including six foreign nationals, have been apprehended in connection with the case.

Furthermore, it was discovered that the arrested Belgian citizen, Dawa Chiring, had established contacts with leaders of the CPN-Maoist center. Dawa is married to Amala Roka, a Maoist leader hailing from Rolpa.
