KATHMANDU: Nepal faced a formidable challenge last night in the rain-affected final group stage match of the Asia Cup cricket tournament against India, ultimately succumbing to a 10-wicket defeat.

Despite the truncated overs, India successfully chased down Nepal’s target of 231 runs in a gripping midnight encounter at Pallekele Stadium in Sri Lanka.

Amidst this high-intensity match, the Nepali batters showcased a memorable performance against the formidable Indian side.

On the bowling front, Karan KC and his compatriots displayed their skills but were unable to secure wickets.

Notably, the brilliant performances of Aashif Seikh and Sompal Kami garnered well-deserved acclaim.

Following the midnight showdown, Nepali coach Monty Desai led his players into the Indian dressing room, where they were warmly received by India’s Captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Coach Rahul Dravid.

An intriguing spectacle unfolded as Indian players adorned medals on their Nepalese counterparts—an unusual sight in the realm of sportsmanship.

Traditionally, medals are awarded to players from the winning team, but Coach Desai, an Indian citizen himself, orchestrated a unique gesture that aimed to foster camaraderie between the athletes from both nations.

The Nepal Cricket Association also shared a video capturing this heartwarming moment, exemplifying the spirit of sportsmanship.

Inside the Indian dressing room, coach Dravid, along with players including Virat Kohli and Hardik Pande, personally presented medals to Sompal Kami, Ashif Seikh, and Dipendra Singh Airee in recognition of their commendable performances against India.

After the exchange, Nepali players shared heartwarming selfies and snapshots with their Indian counterparts.

Sompal Kami even proudly shared a photograph of Virat Kohli autographing his cricket shoes, highlighting that Virat is not merely a cricketer but also a true hero in the eyes of aspiring players.
