Maoist Center calls PP meeting to discuss Koshi govt

BIRATNAGAR: CPN-Maoist Center has called its Province Parliamentary Party meeting to discuss the support given to the Koshi province government.

According to Maoist Center sources, the lawmakers have been called at the province parliamentary party office to discuss the province government.

“The meeting has been called to make an urgent decision,” said a lawmaker, adding “It is a decision for the government.”

Indra Bahadur Angbo, leader of the Maoist Central Province Parliamentary Party, affirmed that the issue of support given to the government was on the agenda of the discussion. The province committee have been waiting for the party headquarters’ gesture for the withdrawal of the support given to CPN-UML led government in the province.

“There is a topic of amendment in the provincial regulations”, Aangbo said, “The topic of support is also on the agenda for discussion.”

UML parliamentary party leader Hikmat Bahadur Karki was appointed Chief Minister on January 8 with the support of Maoist Center, Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP. Even though JDP withdrew its support and left the government, the Maoist Center has not withdrawn its support yet.

In the 93-member province assembly, a party needs at least 47 votes for majority. There are 40 MPs from UML, 29 from Nepali Congress, 13 from Maoist Center, 6 from RPP, 4 from CPN Unified Socialist Party and 1 from JSP.

The RPP, which participated in the Karki-led government, has demanded the post of chief minister to support the new alliance.

If the RPP, which has 6 seats in the province assembly, joins, a coalition including the NC, Maoist Center, Unified Socialists and JSP can easily form the government. Provided it is formed, the new alliance will have 52 seats in the province assembly.
