11 arrested for driving under the influence of drugs

KATHMANDU: Police arrested 11 people who were driving under the influence of banned drugs.

A joint team of the Valley Traffic Police Office, Nepal Police Hospital, Narcotics Control Bureau and Nagadhunga Police Division had carried out a special check at Nagadhunga, the main entry point to the federal capital.

After they were found driving under the influence of drugs they have been sent to Police Division Balambu for necessary investigation and action, Spokesperson of Valley Traffic Police Office, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajendra Prasad Bhatt said.

They have been detained and will be prosecuted for consumption of banned drugs.

People who drive vehicles under the influence of alcohol have been facing action from Traffic Police since a long time.

But police have intensified the checking for consumption of drugs after many were found to switch to drugs so as to avoid being detected during the check for alcohol consumption, according to the Valley Traffic Police Office.
