KATHMANDU: In compliance with the Patan High Court order related to the fake Bhutanese refugee case, four individuals, including three who have posted bail, are scheduled to be handed over to the Department of Money Laundering Investigation today.
The trio of Narendra KC, Shamsher Miya, and Haribhakta Maharjan, having fulfilled their bail requirements, along with Ashish Budhathoki, set for release on a regular date, will be transferred to the Department, where they face allegations of money laundering.
Subsequently, government employees will be submitted to the relevant authority.
Pursuant to the court order, Narendra KC and Shamsher Miya made payments of Rs 10 lakh each, while Haribhakta Maharjan paid Rs 15 lakh on Sunday.
Lalit Kumar Basnet, Head of Central Jail, stated that Ashish Budhathoki, slated for release on a standard date, received a release notification on Sunday.
However, due to a delay, he will be sent to the Laundering Department.
On Friday, the Patan High Court directed the release of six accused in the fake Bhutanese refugee case — four on simple bail and nine in custody.
Laxmi Maharjan, Ashish Budhathoki, Tanka Kumar Gurung, and Keshav Tuladhar were granted bail, while Teknath Rizal, Narendra KC, Haribhakta Maharjan, Shamsher Miya, Sandeep Rayamazhi, and Ramsharan KC were also released on bail.
In the case of Nepali Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand, a former home minister, a decision remains pending as two judges disagreed.
He will now be presented to a third judge to determine whether to release him on parole, a regular date, or to keep him in prison.
Sons of former Deputy Prime Minister Top Bahadur Rayamazhi, Sandeep, and Ramsharan KC, will be released on Monday as the bail payment process was not completed on Sunday.
However, the bail process for Teknath Rizal, the refugee leader, has not progressed.
The High Court has ordered his release on a bond of 1.5 million, but Rizal claims he is unable to pay that amount.
