Update: 80 confirmed dead in Jajarkot, Rukum West earthquake



JAJARKOT: Authorities have confirmed that the earthquake, which struck last night with Nepal’s Jajarkot at its epicenter, has resulted in a loss of 80 lives in Jajarkot and Rukum West, leaving an additional 140 individuals wounded.

According to DSP Santosh Rokka, Chief of Police at the District Police Office in Jajarkot, the death toll in Jajarkot alone amounts to 44, with casualties reported in various municipalities, including Bheri, Nalgad, Kushe, and Chedagad.

Among the injured, 55 individuals in Jajarkot have received medical attention, with 5 requiring transfer to Surkhet Provincial Hospital for advanced treatment, while the remainder are under care at the District Hospital and local healthcare facilities.

The neighboring district of Rukum West also faced severe devastation.

District Police Chief DSP Namraj Bhattarai said that the death toll has reached 36.

In Rukum West, 85 individuals sustained injuries, with 9 in critical condition, prompting plans for their evacuation via helicopter.

The remaining injured are receiving treatment at the District Hospital, Chaurjahari Hospital, and other healthcare institutions.
