Rastriya Ekta Abhiyan protests against Chinese ambassador Song

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Ekta Abhiyan protested against Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Chen Song for the latter’s remark that Chinese support for Pokhara International Airport construction was a part of the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) program.

Organizing the protest campaign at Maitighar Mandala on Tuesday, the Abhiyan demanded the expulsion of Ambassador Song for his ‘false propaganda.’

“While the Nepal government has been saying that the Pokhara International Airport is built with loans and grants, Ambassador Song has repeatedly linked the airport with the BRI project and defamed it,” Abhiyan’s Chair Vinay Yadav said.

Recalling that an agreement was reached for the development of Pokhara Airport before the BRI framework came, the Yadav said that the ambassador’s statement has caused confusion and anxiety to Nepali people.

The protestors accused China of trying to entice Nepal into a debt trap.
