UML to quit Koshi govt over dissatisfaction with Cabinet expansion

BIRATNAGAR: Disgruntled with the cabinet’s expansion in Koshi Province, which now includes the Maoist Center and the United Socialist, the CPN-UML has decided to withdraw its support from the government.

The UML had previously supported Kedar Karki of the Nepali Congress as the chief minister, but the recent appointment of Indra Angbo from the Maoist Center has prompted the UML to reconsider its role in the coalition, citing directives from the central leadership.

Karki was appointed Chief Minister with UML support as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution on October 14.

On the same day, Karki appointed ministers from Nepali Congress and UML, namely Ram Bahadur Rana Magar and Shumsher Rai, respectively.

However, without any prior discussion, the government was extended on Friday.

Sources close to UML said that Minister Rana will resign from the cabinet “anytime soon”.

The UML has already conveyed its discontent, emphasizing a lack of consultation in the government reshuffle.
