10 quintal sugar seized in Kavre



KAVRE: A joint team of Nepal Police and Traffic Police seized 10 quintals of sugar from Kavrebhanjyang of Dhulikhel Municipality-9. Police recovered the sugar supplied by hiding in 33 sacks during a security check.

The security bodies have suspected the smuggling of sugar from different districts of the eastern Tarai via BP Highway in recent days as the Kathmandu Valley has witnessed a shortage of sugar during this festive season.

Information officer of the District Police Office Raj Kumar Shrestha confirmed that the sugar is being imported illegally via the BP Highway. In order to control the illegal supply of sugar, the police have intensified security checks in the highway.

Earlier on October 19, the Area Police Office, Banepa, had seized 92 sacks of sugar that had been brought by evading taxes.

The sugar was supplied by covering from the sacks filled with paddy.
