MCC CEO Albright calls on Deputy Prime Minister Shrestha on Tuesday

KATHMANDU: Visiting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MCC, Alice Albright, paid a courtesy call on Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Home Affairs Narayankaji Shrestha on Tuesday.

Welcoming the MCC CEO Albright and the delegation led by her at the Home Ministry in Singha Durbar, DPM Shrestha said that the government of Nepal, in the wake of the latest political changes, was focused on fulfilling the historical responsibility of socio-economic development of the country and citizens.

DPM Shrestha believed that the successful implementation of the MCC projects would contribute towards that end.

It may be noted that CEO Albright arrived here on Sunday on a five-day visit to celebrate the successful launch of the MCC-Nepal Compact, the USD 500 million US government aid grant to Nepal.

The government and Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) under the US government signed the Millennium Challenge Compact on 14 September 2017 and the implementation phase commenced on 29 August 2022.

During the meeting, Shrestha said that since the parliament of Nepal had ratified the MCC projects, the incumbent government was committed to its implementation.

At present, according to him, the Home Ministry was involved in land acquisition for the project and ensured all-out security to such projects.

DPM Shrestha further shared that the concerned Chief District Officers were facilitating in land acquisition for the MCC projects and he had taken stock of the progress report of the MCC projects.

Similarly, CEO Albright expressed her happiness that the Nepal government as well as all stakeholders were committed to enforcing the MCC projects within the stipulated deadline of five years after the commencement.

According to her, MCA Nepal was responsible for the implementation of the MCC projects and it was a mechanism under the government of Nepal. She mentioned that MCC had been in coordination with the stakeholders of the government of Nepal constantly to bring the MCC projects to fruition.

Stating that the MCC was an important part of American foreign assistance, the MCC CEO was confident that the implementation of the MCC would further strengthen Nepal-USA relations.
