Hatuwagadhi implements ‘one ward, one pond’ program

BHOJPUR: Hatuwagadhi rural municipality in Bhojpur has constructed over 30 artificial ponds under its ‘ one ward, one pond’ program.

The program is said to have been implemented successfully. The local government came up with the program of building public ponds in response to the dwindling local water resources.

Rural municipality chairperson Prem Kumar Rai said they aim to protect water resources along with supporting in irrigation through the pond construction program.

“We hope to tackle with water crisis issues through the construction of ponds and see its sustainable impact on the water management and environmental adaption. Ponds construction works go on in this fiscal year as well.”

He added the local government has taken this initiative significantly in terms of the effort to conserve environment.

“It plays a vital role in recharging the earth’s natural water resources.”

According to the rural municipality chief administrative officer, Mahesh Niroula, the construction of artificial ponds has been in a regular calendar of the local government for over a couple of years.

Nine ponds were built last fiscal year and Rs 100,000 is allotted for the construction of one pond.
