LUMBINI: A discussion on the annual budget of the Lumbini Province government is taking place today.
The deliberations could not be held on Sunday following disputes between the provincial government and the opposition parties.
Sunday’s meeting of the Province Assembly could not proceed with deliberations on the budget for the upcoming fiscal year citing protests from the provincial assembly members of opposition CPN UML.
CPN-UML’s province assembly members staged protests since the beginning of the province assembly meeting on Sunday.
The UML put its firm stance on the amendment to the budget and the government’s written response to its demand.
Amid protests from the opposition, Finance Minister of Lumbini Province Dhan Bahadur Maski tabled a proposal for theoretical discussions on the budget.
However, the opposition’s lawmakers picketed the well in the House, barring the minister from speaking.
