Police arrest 7 people involved in swindling money promising to send to America as Bhutanese refugees



KATHMANDU: Police have arrested at least 7 people on charges of swindling millions of rupees from Nepali citizens in the name of sending them to America as Bhutanese refugees.

Five of those arrested have taken the name of Prem Kumar Rai, the Chief of the Commission for the Abuse of Authority Investigation (CIAA), who was also the former Home Secretary.

Even though his name has been mentioned in the statement, the police have not yet issued an arrest warrant against him.

Meanwhile, police have arrested Indrajit Rai, Advisor to the then Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa “Badal”, over his involvement in swindling hefty amount of money from Nepali citizens assuring them of sending them to America as Bhutanese refugees.
