Rural Municipality Chair faces three years’ imprisonment



BAGLUNG: Chairman of Nisikhola Rural Municipality in Baglung district, Surya Bahadur Gharti, has been hand down the imprisonment for three years in a case of drug trafficking.

Judge at District Court, Dr Dibakar Bhatta, issued the verdict that Gharti would be imprisoned for three and half years along with fine of Rs 50,000, according to information officer at court, Surya Prasad Bhandari.

When Gharti was chairman of ward-6 of Nisikhola, he was arrested with 80 kgs of charas from his residence on June 26, 2020. He was convicted of drug trafficking crime two weeks back.

The punishment has been determined now. A police team led by police inspector Prakash Singh Bhandari had arrested Gharti from his residence.

The police team had reached Gharti’s residence while chasing the smugglers supplying marijuana to the youths in Burtibang bazaar.

The powdered marijuana was confiscated from his residence. However, the full text of verdict is awaited.
