KATHMANDU: Leaders of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), under the leadership of Chairman Rabi Lamichhane, visited the President’s Office to draw attention to the contentious issue of granting immunity to Yograj (Regal) Dhakal, who had been charged with murder.

Nisha Dangi, the party’s whip, stated that their purpose in visiting the President’s Office was to address the troubling matter of granting exoneration to an individual who had been serving a life sentence for the heinous crime of murder, committed in broad daylight.

Alongside Chairman Lamichhane, the delegation included the party’s General Secretary Mukul Dhakal, among others, all of whom were determined to bring this matter to the forefront.

It may be noted that President Ram Chandra Paudel had previously granted amnesty to Dhakal on the occasion of Constitution Day.

In response, the RSP has taken a resolute stance by deciding to register a resolution aimed at putting an end to the practice of granting immunity to individuals serving sentences for serious crimes, such as murder.

Yograj Dhakal, popularly known as ‘Regal’ in Nepalgunj, had been serving a life sentence for his involvement in the murder of Chetan Manandhar.

His pardon on Constitution Day has sparked widespread debate and concern, especially considering his affiliation with the Nepali Congress-affiliated Tarun Dal.
