MUGLIN: The Nagdhunga-Muglin Road Project (West Section) has started the expansion and upgradation of the 39-km-long Muglin-Malekhu road section.

Sharma ZICG JV is awarded the construction contract, and the construction of the five kilometers road is taking place in the first phase, Project Chief Kiran Karki said.

As per the contract agreement, 17 kms road would be upgraded towards Chitwan district and 22 kms in Dhading.

Karki shared that the road will have four to six lanes in the market areas along with footpath, road dividers and electric poles.

Ten overhead bridges would also be constructed in Malekhu, Shitalbazar, Benighat, Bishaltar, Majhitar, Phisling, Kurintar, Lewatar, Ramailodanda and Muglin.

Likewise, six bridges would also be constructed along the route. The bridges would be built over Gomati river, Charaudi river, Khatauti river, Hugdi river, Mauwa river and Barbang river.

The total cost of the project is Rs 4.8 billion. The project is supposed to cut around 350 trees to widen the road.

“We have prioritized building walls on the river banks instead of excavating the hills,” Karki said, adding that design of the road is made in such a way that it will be resilient for at least 20 years.

The construction company is working in a speedy manner to complete the project in time since this road section is a key route to enter in and exit from Kathmandu.

The road is being built with the financial assistance from the World Bank.
