AYODHYA: The ‘sacred rocks’ excavated from the Kaligandaki River of Nepal arrived in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, India, late on Wednesday.
The rocks, popularly known as Shaligram stone, were taken to Ayodhya for sculpting and placing a life-size idol of Lord Ram in the under-construction Ram Temple here.
A group of the people with the Shaligram boulders that were taken out from the Kaligandaki River in Beni Municipality-6, Thulopahiro of Myagdi on January 26 had reached Ayodhya late on February 2.
The religious procession had bound to Ayodhya with the boulders from Janakpurdham on January 30.
With the procession getting into Ayodhya – the birthplace of Lord Ram, General-Secretary of Tirtha Chhetra Trust Champat Roy welcomed the Nepali delegation headed by Janaki Temple Mahantha Ram Tapeshwor Das and Nepali Congress leader and former Deputy Prime Minister Bimalendra Nidhi.
A big crowd of locals who gathered in Ayodhya took the holy rocks to the site. The rocks were kept at Ram Sewakpur here on Wednesday itself.
A special function has been set for Thursday morning to hand over the boulders to the Shreeram Birthplace Tirtha Chhetra Trust, shared Mahantha Das.
Trust General-Secretary Roy told RSS that the holy rocks would be formally received today after performing special worships to be attended by the delegations from Nepal and India at Ramsewakpuram, Ayodhya.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the holy rocks were taken ahead to Ayodhya after performing special Hindu ritual workshops at Gorakhnath Temple complex in Gorakhpur.
