EC set to register parties for NA elections



KATHMANDU: The Election Commission (EC) in Kathmandu has set plans to register political parties for the upcoming National Assembly elections in the last week of November.

Scheduled for January 25, the elections aim to select 19 members for the National Assembly, with the commission finalizing the election schedule following the government’s announcement of the election date.

As per the approved schedule, the period for party registration has been allocated from December 10 to December 15 for all participating parties. Furthermore, the commission disclosed that on December 17, election symbols will be allocated to the registered parties.

To ensure a smooth electoral process, the commission will appoint the election officer on January 1, 2024. The election program is slated to run from January 5 to January 14.

While the deadline for candidate registration remains unspecified, the commission is currently contemplating setting the registration date for January 5. A formal decision on this matter is anticipated to be made today.
