Govt establishes high-level inquiry commission led by Judge Dilliram Acharya to probe gold smuggling

KATHMANDU: The government has announced the formation of a four-member inquiry commission under the leadership of Judge Dilliram Acharya to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the issue of gold smuggling and subsequently present a report with recommendations.

Government Spokesperson Minister Rekha Sharma conveyed that the decision to establish this inquiry commission was made during an emergency meeting of the Council of Ministers on Sunday. The proposal for this initiative was put forth by the Ministry of Home Affairs.

The newly formed commission is composed of Kishorejung Karki from the Ministry of Finance, Premraj Joshi from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and former AIG Sahakul Thapa.

This move marks a significant step toward addressing and resolving the pressing issue of gold smuggling within the nation.

Earlier, CPN-UML Chairman KP Oli met Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ and discussed the issue of curbing gold smuggling.
