Nepal sees over 600 thousand foreign tourists in eight months

KATHMANDU: Over 600 thousand foreign tourists visited Nepal in the first eight months of 2023.

According to the Nepal Tourism Board, 601,360 tourists from various countries ranging from India to the United States of America arrived in Nepal from January to August this year.

The country welcomed 67,153 visitors in August alone and this figure in the corresponding month last year was 41,304. In 2019, the number was 73,814.

Board Director Maniraj Lamichhane said the graph of the tourist inflow has been on the rise in recent months.

“As the tourists’ arrival from the expected destinations is gradually increasing, we hope to see the arrival of one million tourists this year,” he said.

In August, the majority of tourists came from India, as they numbered 26,665 followed by 5,007 from China, 4,629 from the US, 3,558 from Sri Lanka, 3,190 from Bangladesh, 2,711 from the UK, 1,588 from Spain, 1520 from Japan, 1,416 from Italy and 1,347 from Australia.
