UML to field Sarvendra Khanal in Tanahu-1 and Ram Neupane in Chitwan-2

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML has selected candidates for Chitwan-2 and Tanahun-1 for the by-elections to be held on April 23.

The UML Secretariat meeting held at the party central office in Chyasal, Lalitpur on Saturday decided to nominate former IGP Sarvendra Khanal for Tanahun 1 and Ram Prasad Neupane for Chitwan-2.

According to UML leader Prithvi Subba Gurung, the secretariat meeting did not decide the candidate for Bara-2 citing the political situation is still under consideration there.

“Since the political situation of Bara-2 is very fluid, candidates will be decided on Sunday after further discussion,” he said.

Khanal submitted an application to UML Tanahu District Committee showing interest to be a candidate after previous candidate Ek Bahadur Gurung and the senior leader of Tanahu Kiran Gurung said that they would not stand in the by-election.

Khanal was defeated by Shishir Khanal of the Rastriya Swatantra Party in Kathmandu 6 in the November 20 General Elections.

Neupane, who is going to be a candidate in Chitwan-2, is the UML Chitwan district committee chairman. Earlier, he missed the chance to contest in November 20 General Elections despite being the only candidate recommended by the party’s District Committee.
