SC refuses to register writ against NC President Deuba

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday rejected the registration of a writ petition challenging Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba’s status of the leader of main opposition party.

Registrar Narayan Panthi rejected the registration of writ petition, citing that the issues of parliamentary jurisdiction could not be registered at the court.

According to Panthi, the court could not interpret the issues to be dealt by the parliament and it was under the jurisdiction of the parliament secretariat to decide on the status of the main opposition party.

Advocate Bimal Pokhrel had reached SC with the writ petition arguing that NC President Deuba could not be provided the status and benefits as main opposition leader, as the NC voted for Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ while the latter underwent a floor test on December 31.
