Province 1 chief gives January 8 deadline to claim Chief Minister

KATHMANDU: Province Chief of Province 1 Parshuram Khapung has given seven days to the political parties to submit the claim to provincial government.

Chief Khapung called for the formation of the provincial government according to sub-section (2) of Article 168 of the Constitution.

As no party has got the majority, the Chief Minister has given time till 5:00 pm on Sunday 8th January to claim the Chief Minister according to Article 168, Clause 2.

Due to the alliance between CPN-UML and CPN-Maoist Center at the federal level, the government of the same coalition is being formed in the province as well.

While both UML and Maoist Center are claiming the leadership of the government, the issue of who will lead the government is not finalized yet.

Hikmat Karki will become the chief minister if the province falls under the UML’s share whereas Indra Bahadur Angbo will be the Chief Minister if the province leadership is given to Maoist Center.
