Lawmakers begin deliberations on budget in House meeting

KATHMANDU: Lawmakers have started deliberations on the budget for the coming Fiscal Year 2079/080 presented by Finance Minister Janardan Sharma in the House meeting.

The deliberations started on the budget after Finance Minister presented a proposal for general discussions on the annual revenue and expenditure estimates for the fiscal year 2079/080.

On May 29, Finance Minister Sharma presented a budget of 1 trillion 7 hundred 92 billion and 830 million rupees for the upcoming fiscal year.

The main opposition CPN-UML has already commented that the government has brought the budget to intentionally seek votes in the upcoming federal elections.

A meeting of UML parliamentary party held at the Parliament House in New Baneshwor on Monday concluded that the five-month term government has brought the budget to just seek votes in upcoming elections, concluding that the budget is purely election-oriented and vote-seeking.

Meanwhile, the government has defended the budget.
