KATHMANDU: The final hearing on the writ petition related to the controversy on the promotion of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) from today.

The Supreme Court (SC) is set to hear the final hearing of the IGP promotion controversy starting today (Tuesday).

A single bench of Justice Sushmalata Mathema on May 5 had sought a written reply refusing to issue an internal order.
An interim hearing was scheduled for today (May 31) by the same bench.

The controversy erupted after the government appointed third-ranked Dhiraj Pratap Singh as IGP by bypassing the first-ranked AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel.

AIG Pokharel had filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court alleging that the government had made his junior IGP against the Police Act and regulations.
