Ruling coalition agrees to forge electoral alliance in local polls

The ruling coalition has agreed to forge an electoral alliance in the upcoming local level elections to be held on May 13.

A meeting of the ruling alliance held in Baluwatar today decided to form an electoral alliance in metropolitan cities from the center itself.

According to the decision, the local level itself will decide on the alliance in case of sub metropolitan cities, municipalities and rural municipalities based on the local circumstances and necessity.

Misinformation questions media credibility: PM Deuba

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said the government is committed to full press freedom.

Inaugurating a ceremony to observe the 24th establishment day of Reporters’ Club, Nepal today, the Prime Minister said, “The incumbent government stands in favor of complete freedom of the Press.”

Prime Minister Deuba went on to say that democracy with the guarantee of freedom of expression and of the Press was the agenda of concern of the party since its establishment, and its belief and actions remained unchanged to date.

Cabinet decisions: Four ministers to accompany PM Deuba to India tomorrow

Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is leaving for southern neighbor India on a three-day official visit on Friday.

A cabinet meeting held in Baluwatar finalized names of four ministers who will accompany Prime Ministers during his official visit to India.

Minister for Foreign Affairs Dr. Narayan Khadka, Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Pampha Bhusal, Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Mahendra Raya Yadav and Minister for Health and Population Birodh Khatiwada will accompany Prime Minister Deuba to India.

Similarly, the cabinet meeting also promoted three Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs) to the posts of Additional Inspector Generals (AIGs) of Nepal Police.

The meeting promoted DIGs Dheeraj Pratap Singh, Basant Kumar Pant and Rabindra Bahadur Dhanuk.

Writ against AIG promotion filed at Supreme Court

A writ petition has been filed in the Supreme Court against the government’s decision to promote three Deputy Inspector General (DIG) to the post of Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police on Thursday.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Ishwar Babu Karki, who was not promoted to AIG, filed the writ petition alleging that the AIG promotion was not in line with legal provision.

NEPSE records double digit loss on Thursday

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index registered double digits loss on Thursday, the last trading day of this week, with the total turnover limited below Rs 2 billion.

The NEPSE index has dropped by 23.95 points to 2,544.30 points.

The total turnover throughout the day was less than Rs 2 billion. A total of 1,792,891 shares of 215 scrips were traded via 21,007 transactions today.

Madhes Province Chief Haribansha Mishra has certified the bill designed to form Commission of Inquiry-2078 BS.

The bill designed to form Commission of Inquiry and its functions, duty and rights-2078 was certified. It had already been certified by Madhes Province Assembly.

Printing of ballot papers for May 13 local election begins

The process to print ballot papers for the May 13 local election has started.

Printing of ballot papers would be tested for three days to keep up with the standards for printing ballot papers, said spokesperson for the Election Commission, Shaligram Sharma Paudel.

Nepal-US expedition team to climb Denali in Alaska

A team of American and Nepali mountaineers are set to climb Denali in Alaska, USA, on June 2 this year to mark the remarkable milestone of diamond jubilee of diplomatic relationship between Nepal and the United States of America.

Public Affairs Chief at US Embassy in Kathmandu Garrett E. Wilkerson handed over diamond jubilee expedition flag to the USA-Nepal Friendship Team amidst a program in Kathmandu on Thursday.

The flag will be hoisted atop Mount Everest by Pasang Phurba Sherpa from Seven Summit Treks this spring season and later will be carried by the USA-Nepal Friendship Team to Denali, Alaska.

Nepal reaches final in tri-nation series one match prior

Nepal has entered the final of the ongoing tri-nation T20I series bagging a victory against PNG on Thursday’s match.

To lead Nepal to final one match earlier, Karan KC took 5 wickets including a hat-trick in the final over.

MCC cannot be executed despite parliamentary approval: CPN Gen Secy Chand

General Secretary of the Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) Netra Bikram Chand ‘Biplav’ has said that the United States project Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) cannot be implemented despite its ratification from the parliament.

Addressing the National Gathering of the Scientific Socialist Communist Party, he said his party had put brakes on the Upper Karnali project and the same would repeat in case of MCC.

While addressing a two-day Hindu International Conference organized by the Nepal World Hindu Federation in Kathmandu Thursday, he said, “I have been tough against those indulging in misappropriation of public property. I have a due public support for this and none will be allowed to indulge in embezzlement of public funds.”

Nepal sees 25 new coronavirus cases in past 24 hours

 The country recorded a total of 25 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours as of Thursday.

Of the confirmed cases today, 24 were detected through the RT-PCR method and one from the antigen method.
