KATHMANDU: Loktantrik Samajwadi Party (LSP) has said that it will participate in the government if the latter fulfills its demands including withdrawal of cases against its cadres and and long-standing issues of citizenship.

LSP leaders put forth their demands during a meeting held with Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba in Baluwatar on Wednesday evening.

LSP leaders had reached Baluwatar immediately after they held a central executive committee (CEC) meeting at a party palace in Babarmahal yesterday. The CEC  dwelled on upcoming local level elections, party’s activities and the participation in the government.

LSP Chairman Mahantha Thakur, senior leader Rajendra Mahato, Sharat Singh Bhandari, Anil Jha and Sarbendra Shukla had met with Prime Minister Deuba at 5:30 pm.

Following the meeting that lasted for around 45 minutes, senior leader Bhandari informed that an alliance could be formed with Nepali Congress in all the local, provincial and federal level elections.

“The meeting dwelled on an electoral alliance with Nepali Congress in local, provincial and federal elections. The alliance could be formed depending upon the local circumstances and necessity. Prime Minister Deuba is positive about fulfilling our demands including withdrawal of cases against our cadres and citizenship issues,” said Bhandari.

As many as 10 LSP leaders had put forth their views in the CEC meeting on Wednesday.

The meeting may continue for two more days, said CEC member Keshav Jha.
